logging arch
Posted by trevor collins at 2015-02-13 15:38:38
I'm thinking of building a logging arch for my mini's to bring fire wood out of the woods with. And would like to see some up close pics and hear any pros and cons

Trevor, I built my own for my draft horse about ten years ago, It works great. It is very similar to the one pioneer has on the market today. Take a look at theirs ,I think they have a good arch and i would copy it.

Trevor, i dont have an arch to show on here right now but i havemadesome scoots and such for working our minis. I use a barden style log scoot and ground skid until
I get to where i am going to load the scoot and haul the load home. I would love to talk more with others that are using minis and shetlands to get the work done.

I would be willing to send specs of my scoots and a price list for equipment and so forth. Joshua

I have made a "go devil" type pf thing that works pretty well, it's just a fairly long walk from the woods to tha house. I've got a bad leg and about 2 round trips and I'm starting to hurt pretty good. The minis on the other hand are just getting use to it and want more. Go to lil beginnings driving they seem to be good folks with lots of good info

I use a trailer that is 4 ft by 6 ft with my mini mules it is narrow enough i can get most places in my woods . It loads out to almost a face cord if you round it up . The only problem we have is when the snow gets too deep for the minis. Charlie T. uses his minis for about everything it seems . We just need more equipment for them is the biggest problem.

Equipment other than for pleasure is a problem, (if it was avalible then affording it would be the problem). So I will be trying to "custom" build what I need. My pair is still what I call green But hopfully by the time they are ready then I will have a few things built. I need them to start earning their keep. I have plans to build a gang mower among other things.

Trevor, I know I'm not much help, not a clue how to post a picture on here, but I've seen arches built for atv and four wheelers that would be a very close fit for your minis. The only thing you need to watch is , keep as much weight as possible over the wheels. put your seat right on top of the arch axel with just enough weight on the tung to keep it from coming up .

I've got an old trailer that I think is going to work fairly well. The axle is already an arch shape. I think with some sort of tung extention and a seat and mabe a few other do dads it'll work as a logging arch and a fore cart. It will be a on going spare time project for sure
