Shamless Brag
Posted by KM at 2015-01-27 12:25:44
I won't even pretend that this post is anything than what it is. Saturday night the boys had the evening off from wrestling tournaments and there happened to be a horse pull. These are fun pulls for us locals to play at. We all pitch in $10 for the lights and tractor to load the weights and make a night of it.

On the lines is my 17 year old son. This team is a pair of home bred mares. Full sisters one 7 and one coming 3. We didn't load heavy as the one is young. Just the experience of going to town and the sights and sounds make it worth the haul. This team is the one the boys use to feed cows with. Every day since mid November this pair has been hooked and used. He has done all the driving.

I love the way once hooked he talks the team tight then asks them to walk off. No fuss nothing but step into the load and go. We pulled 2 more loads and the result was the same. Quietly tighten up the slack and lean into the collar.

Not sure if I am more proud of the horseman on the lines or the breeding and breaking behind the mares. Either way it makes for a pretty picture.

You can take pride in the fact that you had a hand in that pull for years. Raising up a young man that anyone would be proud of. this young man using a team that handles like they did at that pull. I take my hat off to you and yours. Memories are what we are making.

Wonderful! You have the right to shamelessly brag.

Nice barn. $10 looks like a bargin to use that facility.

Having seen your video on Facebook a few days ago. That is a very nice team and your son did a great job driving them. You've got the right to brag a little on the team or son.

That's the way it's supposed to be- no big excitement, horses not jumping but pulling steady- great job of trainer, teamster and horses. Congratulations!

Every right to brag!! What a team and what a teamster son!!! And, what a dad to be involved from the beginning and STAY involved now!! Hats off to you and your wife for raising wonderful young folks that enjoy activities other than ones that involve sitting in the house!!

I agree with all who posted above.. one of the reasons pulling contests are not happening around here anymore, no one wanted to see a yelling, jerking contest… nice job., brag away.. tho' it ain't bragging if you can do it!

KM, I have thoroughly enjoyed talking with you and reading about your children. Congratulations on time spent and raising quality people. We always have trials and tribulations with them, but we created them and asked them into this world so are responsible for raising them. Good job on you and your wife's part.

Wow, what a team and teamster! No goofy slamming and breaking of harness. True farm team, true farm teamster. Takes care of his team and equipment and talks to his team and is in control. I am in awe of both, team and teamster. Great job young man!!!!

At the NE state fair there was only one team that pulled like that, the rest were slam bang. And they got 2nd place, ever time they pulled the crowd cheered louder than before.
