UPDATE on Haflinger mare being "off"
Posted by Sharon Anderson -- AWESOME ASS ACRES -- Etowah, TN at 2015-01-25 09:28:43
Several months ago, I posted with concerns and questions about one of my Hafinger mares acting "off" in her mannerisms...no outward signs of illness or injury, just sluggish and slow moving, when called up to eat, etc. After several consults with my vet in GA, then going through my regular worming schedule (ending a month ago...with no improvement)...I loaded her up on Fri and hauled her to GA for a full exam, with bloodwork, fecal count and hands on by my vet. RESULTS?? Nothing found! Glad with the news, but still perplexed about her condition, as is Dr. Orr. He's a renowned equine vet and I trust his diagnosis absolute...there's just not one. Any thoughts???

Did he test her for Lyme Disease and the several other tick-transmitted illnesses? There is a very quiet, untreated epidemic going on in this country and it is affecting more than just horses!

Is she with foal?

I'm with Nora WI, were there specific tests for any of the tick-borne diseases?

If yes, and all negative, then this is a puzzlement.

Tests were run for Lyme...will know results this week...Cushings was ruled out...not pregnant...am currently giving her daily dosages of Red Cell...hoping for a positive change and good results from the test.

How long on Redcell? Is this something you tried or was it vet recommended? I use this myself because vet thought my horse could be anemic. Works well at my house. Have used on multiple horses since.
