Chattanooga 70
Posted by J.Duffield at 2014-12-08 23:27:11
I recently moved into a place and found a plow marked as a Chattanooga 70R. I am assuming the R stands for right hand, but was hoping someone could give me the specs for this plow. I would like to restore it everything is in good shape, but the point is missing, and of course the handles are dry rottted.

Hopefully Brabant owner will chime in soon. He is one of the better plowmen that I know of. He can possibly help you with finding parts also. I just recently found a two-way Chattanooga sulky plow. Will be bringing that one home soon. It doesn't need much but I will be looking for paint colors for it.

My book says it is a one horse plow, weighs 58 lbs, plows 5" wide and 7" deep. The one I have looks like to me would plow more than 5" wide. The book also says it was popular in the cotton sections on account of its very light draft. I have all the new parts to repair it if you need them, and I can ship them anywhere. or 803-259-6500.

Yesterday evening I brought this plow up to the shop to do a complete inventory on it. The paint on the cross piece between the handles was still bright red where it was inside the handle. I thought there was some green flecks on the back of the wing and I assumed someone had painted it green and yellow like all the yard art around here, but, behind the wing bolts it was bright blue. I assume this is the orinal color, it had just oxidized to greenish on the exposed parts.

I have one color picture that shows the handles and beam red, the front hitch parts look to be blue. Cannot see the back of the wing and slide in the picture to tell the color. Most of the new Chatt parts I have are painted blue, and some have the Chatt decal on them. So I would say the frog, point, slide, and wing were blue on the originals.
