Pre-1950 Yellow Dent Corn
Posted by Barb Lee at 2014-11-15 11:05:15
Does anyone have an old book around that gives the feed value of yellow dent corn prior to well, at least 1960? Doing some research. You can email me at
Thanks!

I've got an older Morrison's Feed and Feeding. Will go look it up.

Thank you Mike! Just kind of working on a project that compares some of the pre-hybridization nutritional values of corn with modern. Even by 1950s, hybridization had apparently modified the biology of corn to resemble sugar cane.

You should have a pile of emails by now.

I have read advertizments that Reeds open pollinated dent corn was 13% protein and the best corn to make achooch was only 2%. Would be nice to run some tests.

I grew some Wapsie Valley. It is open pollinated but I done know how old of a variety it is. When I sent it to be tested it was 11.9% protein.
