Farm Question 11/13/2014
Posted by Jerry Hicks at 2014-11-13 05:20:11
Can you tell a cow's age by the length or wrinkling of her horns?

We are nearing a fork in the road on our farm question game. There is one question remaining in our first book of 400 questions. It's hard to believe we have gone through 400 but we've breezed right through. Now the question is, does everyone want to continue? I've enjoyed posting and answering the questions and I am willing to keep doing so as long as there is interest and Joe doesn't mind the posts. So, first off, do we continue? And if so the second question is Which book of questions would everyone like to begin next? The available fields are 1)Soils 2) Poultry 3) Horticulture 4)4-H and FFA 5) Entomology 6) Crops 7) Agricultural Engineering 8)Dairy Husbandry 9) Agricultural Economics. Tomorrow will be the final question in Animal Husbandry and if everyone wants to push on the next subject's question will be posted on Monday. Thanks to everyone who has participated and I hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as I have. While all the information comes from nearly 80 years ago, and much of it is very basic I have still found things to make me take a closer look at my own operation.

I don't mind. I appreciate your effort, Jerry.

Jerry, even though I haven't participated lately, when I do check in I check all of the back questions and answers. Like Uncle Joe, thanks for taking the time to do this.

How about 'Soils'?
I have enjoyed the last series a great deal.

I don't answer your questions, but I always read them. I'd vote for either soils or poultry.

I've enjoyed most of the questions. I vote for Poultry or Entomology next.

I enjoy reading. I don't get around to answer much, because I only log on a couple days a week, but I love reading the questions and answers. Very informative!

Dairy husbandry would be a good one. Thanks for taking the time to do these questions

We should all learn something new every day and sometimes the only new thing that I learn comes from your questions. Please keep them coming. As far as a subject is concerned, Mix it up a little bit so I don't become a professor on chickens.
Thanks for all of your work.

Bill

Keep up the good work, Jerry. It's fun to see how far technology has taken us. In Reverse!
Response by Billy Foster at 2014-11-14 05:15:15
Always enjoy the questions. My vote would be Soils, Poultry, Dairy in that order.

Like the challenge of thinking back to the past. It's hard enough keeping track of the new developments in agriculture. I have learned a lot from the past. I'm game to keep it going. Any topic will be great but soil might be timely. Getting ready for next year.
Response by Jerry Hicks at 2014-11-14 06:08:51
Ok, as to the answer to yesterday's question, no, you can not tell the age of a cow by the length or the wrinkling of her horns.

As to the other question, thank you to everyone for the responses. I will try mixing the questions in the following order, one question from soils, followed by a question from poultry, then dairy, then entomology. We'll try that order for a while and see how well I can do keeping up with the order. Again, thanks to everyone for the responses, the interest and the participation.

Please keep the questions coming on all topics. I like feeling superior on the questions I know and I like learning on the other 99%.
