fleas
Posted by joe mccarthy at 2014-10-31 07:01:22
Our horse recently lied down in the paddock sand and has picked up some fleas from the sand. She has some bites on the side she lied down on. Anyone have a proven method to get rid of the fleas on her or in the paddock? Thanks!!

Diatomaceous earth works temporarily. We use it on puppies that are too young for any treatment, as well as to prevent lice and mites by sprinkling in our coop and shelters. We even put it into our bulk feed bins to prevent weevils and other crawlies out of our feeds, while also absorbing any excess moisture that would otherwise spoil the feed. You can sprinkle it in the paddock, and it may help, but remember it will kill any small insect, including beneficials. It's good stuff and totally harmless to people and mammals. Just a bit drying to skin and fur.
