Anyone using horses for hunting
Response by Gary at 2014-10-24 06:49:02
Rented a horse from an outfiitter, for an elk hunt. Asked him if "I could shoot off it?" He replied "Yes" "But you will only get 1 shot"

yes that is the way with some horses & mules. the ones that I ride you can shoot off of more than once.

Yes, sure do. Good horse you can often ride up on elk or deer, in some areas. Take your horse with you when you go site the gun in. Take him "plinkin" and soon it won't bother him. We have had some you could shoot off but not a good idea, can't aim right....lol. Had a good Morgan that I could ride out into the river and fish off. Fun.

I had a mare that would point to a bird in the brush. Once when triming her feet someone let off a shot, didn't bother her but I jumped. I don't hunt but if I did she would have been a great horse to take out.

It's the best way to get away from the crowd.

I ride and pack my mules and horses. Back in the wild places with the grizzly bears is where I like to go.

Not horses, but I have been using mules for years.

now you cant get a really accurate shot off a horse or mule for hunting. best to get off them before you shoot if you want to take any meat home. Being able to shoot off of a horse or mule has saved me from getting hurt.

I have shot off a horse a few times. Just with a 22 revolver and off to the side while chasing coyotes. Was able to make the coyote go faster.

I have a great time hunting with horses in the Big horn mts, Wyoming.
No grizz or wolf to worry about, great to take the kids and horses off the atv congested areas.
