Farm Question 10/09/2014
Posted by Jerry Hicks at 2014-10-09 05:08:54
How often should lambs and ewes be drenched for worms when on pasture?
Response by NoraWI at 2014-10-09 10:33:27
Today, around here, monthly. We have endemic brain worm that is present in white tail deer and passes through a snail on the pasture grass. Have no idea what they did in 1932.

Drenching every four weeks is recommended.

To open a question to ask. If one is set stocking they may have to drench every month and will build up a resistance to the dewormer, if MIG some outfits never drench. We MIG and drench lambs twice a year and ewes once a year. We do check eyelids several times a year and hit those that are really pale but they will also get a cull mark.

Nora,is that the same as the meninga (spelling?) worm we have trouble with in the Midwest alpaca and lamma herds? Sounds like it transfers the same way but have never lost sheep to it.We worm alpacas and lammas monthly with Ivomec to help control it but have never heard of it in sheep.
