Treatment ideas for collar rubbed injury?

I think our team was goofing off in the pasture and one nipped the other's neck. We had a long day of work yesterday, and the resulting knot appeared to be just in front of the collar, so I didn't worry about it. After roughly 8 miles of pulling the wagon, though, the knot was rubbed pretty raw by the collar. We have commitments starting mid-week and through the weekend. What treatments should I do? It's not an abscess or open wound. Just a hard lump that resulted in a rubbed, oozy, sore surface. He's a bit tender there. I coated it with some basic antiseptic after, but is there a good way to cover it from the collar mid-week? I am giving him 2-3 days off, hoping to let it heal up, but not sure if that will be enough time. Definitely don't want to make it any worse or to make it unpleasant to work. FTR, the lump is located just to one side, right below where the mane hairs start growing (the horses nip at each other all the time in that area), and just in front of the top of collar when the horse is at rest.

An old Amishman told me one time, the first pee of the morning. Go out and pee on their shoulders. Higher salt content, actually some science behind it, but it toughens the hide. Ya get what you pay for and i gave this info to you for free.

Bickmore gall salve. This stuff really grows hair and it say's on the can to continue to work the animals as you treat them. I have used it on my horses for all their scraps and bites between each other. A lot of feed stores carries it.
