Nissen Wagon
Posted by RSD in NC at 2014-09-08 15:27:29
Does anyone on the Porch have a two horse Nissen
stiff tongue wagon that could send me a picture
of the front hounds so I can see what kind of
hardware I need to put on the hounds to mount the
tongue on my restoration?

Didn't know a stiff tongue wagon had hounds, just a tunnel that the tongue went into.

What are "hounds" in this context , didn't find it in any dictionary. I have a vague idea, but I am not content with vague ideas.

They are the angled braces that the drop tounge fits into. The drop tounge has angled braces that fit into the hounds. This is to take wobble out of the tounge and still let it move vertical.

Many of the wood wheeled wagons had a triangle, or V shape that formed a brace to the tounge tunnel. Can't remember but seems like they were actually on the end of some tounges and set in the front axle. Got the pic in my head but can't get it to my authritic fingers.
