Equipment covers
Posted by Mptclinics in IL at 2014-08-28 13:24:49
Is there such a thing as protective covers for horse-drawn farm implements? We are short on shelters at the moment (have plans to build), and when I store them in my little barn or in the garage, they are really in the way. Do they make good, weather-resistant covers that would allow me to store them outside, but still offer some protection from rain and sun damage? FTR, we currently have a Pioneer 3-ton classic wagon, and a fore cart. We are looking for a vis-a-vis as well, and will really have no more storage shelters if we find one. Thought I'd check here.

I have used ATV, UTV, Boat, & Small Car covers, Usually priced right. I also saw I person that had covers made out of those inexpensive plastic type tarpes, sewn in the shape needed to cover the vehicle.

1" pcv pipe or green branches to make bows and cover in plastic tarps will provide a temporay shelter. This way there is still air circulation around the stored item. Or make a lean-to roof with a tarp on the side of an exiting building.

Tarps will leak if water can pond on it, so as a minimum, make sure that the center is held higher than the edges.

go down to menards and get one of their hoop storage buildings. The big one is under $800 right now. They have smaller ones as well. They last for several years.

On some billboards they use a woven plastic like material, makes for a cheap tarp if you find some of them. As Neil said be sure there is no pounding water. Also make sure the tarp does not go al the way to the ground, there needs to be airflow under it or everything will rust or rot from the moisture.
