New Team Prospects
Posted by Seth at 2014-08-16 20:28:45
I just got two mares back that I had sold a couple of years ago. They are buckskin QH full sisters, 3 and 5 yr old. They are not a big team at about 14 hands and 1050 lbs, but they will be pretty in harness.

The 5 yo has about 90 rides on her and the 3 yr old is barely halter broke. They are both laid back and quiet.

I anticipate starting the 3 yr old soon. I am going to teach her to ride first and break some of her spoiled mentality (she has been running in a large pasture for 2 years). I will also start putting a few rides on the older mare. I will then drive them both single and hopefully have them working together in 3 or 4 months.

I am a bit excited about seeing these mares work, because you don't see many matched buckskins in harness! Hopefully I can post some pictures soon.

That sounds like a fun project. It also sounds like you're happy to have them back.

Good luck with them, take pictures, and keep us posted with the progress.

Seth, you know how much we like pictures. I've always been a little partial to buckskins.

Sounds like a great team prospect. Just my observation from playing with QH in harness: Go slow! In my opinion having broke out welsh and sheltland ponies, haflingers, morgans, Walking horses, shires, and QH's is QH's are the easiest to mess up and make balky. They seem to cold shouldered longer than the other. Don't rush them into harness. KM
