shoe size

I'm just curious to get some info from some of you draft horse owners. What size shoe do your horses wear? Also if you could tell me how big your horses are, that would be great.

Could a full blood Percheron be 15.2 hands tall and wear a size 2 shoe?

JYI there are no standards for shoe sizes. One brands # 2 may be 3/8 " longer from heel to heel than another company brand. Even within the same brand, different styles very often measure differently from heel to heel.

15.2 Percheron, yeah it's possible' most I've delt with are a good bit taller. A size "2" shoe, again possible, but I figure a tad small.

Our horses wear 2's on the front and 3's on the back. They stand 16.1 and weigh around 1250-1300. 3/4 Morgan 1/4 perchreon cross bred
I don't see why your full blooded perchreon couldn't wear 2's all the way around. I'd believe it

It is possible, just not likely 100% perch

My Percheron mares are about 16 hands, estimated weight of 1350 to 1500 ea. and wear a #6 shoe. My half percheron half Qtr. mare is about 15 hands and wears a #2 shoe. Curious as to why you ask.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at a team of Percherons although I haven't gone to see them yet. The owner said they wear size 2 shoes, and I think that is definitely small for a Percheron. I'm not much keen on draft crosses because in my experience they get too much "hot blood" and I want a laid back team. I would like a small draft size team (1400-1700 lbs), but I still want a little power and bone.

I'd be wary of a Percheron in a size 2 shoe. Mine are about 1700lbs and they wear a 5 on their fronts. I could ask for their feet to be just a touch larger for the amount of bone they have.
