good friday and potato planting

Well the weather cooperated and we got the spuds in the ground. My 18yro. Suffolk gelding walked slow and steady and sometimes straight :) to make the rows. Our neighbor with their granddaughters helped plant 100lbs of Yukon Gold and about 50lbs of leftovers from last year which had really sprouted. We share the harvest in the fall.
Remembering this day leading up to the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ . Happy Easter to you all..............Mark Gillenwater

Happy Easter Mark.
I think today might be the last day we see snow on the ground here. It is suppose to rain some and that will hopefully melt what is left.
Been along winter.

In Louisiana we plant potatoes on Valentine Day

If you want to have success with your potatoes you will need to plant them at the right soil temperature (minimum 45 degrees Fahrenheit), which in some parts of the country usually, not necessarily, correlate with certain dates. Potatoes know nothing about religious or other customs , they only respond to environmental conditions.

We're about 3/4 sold out of seed potatoes here at the feed store. We should have more coming in next week. Not all of us are able to get them in the ground yet. Still hoping to get oats in by the end of the month. Happy Easter!
