I posted about my granddaughter a bit back but about her claiming my mules. She even takes one to college with her leaving me short one mule to feed. Its a proud time when we can spend time together. This year she was elected as secretary of the Missouri Draft Horse and Mule Assoc. It's an honor to have her for a granddaughter. I have have also received several other honors over the past two years. Last year I was named member of the year for the Missouri Draft Horse and Mule Assoc then last night while attending a dinner to honor the volunteers of the Jackson County Parks + Rec to my surprise I was named ,along with my brother and sister in-law, volunteer of the year for 1855 Missouri Town. A special thanks for this goes out to the 1855 OX CHICK. If your ever in our area you need to visit Missouri Town and meet Linda.

As I understand I get to know you tomorrow at my Draft Horse Seminar for Market Gardeners II , as you will come along with my friend Doyle Prawl who'll bring his team of mules. I look forward to it. What do young people say ? "It's going to be blast."

Dave, you are blessed, my friend. Have a great time at the Karbaumer's, and we'd love to see pictures.

Great photos, granddaughter! :-)

I second the request for more pictures from Klaus' seminar. Have a blast!

Well, Mark and Thomas, the Seminar II for Market Gardeners took place today, we had 9 attendees. Doyle brought his mules, I hitched up two of our four horses (the other two will be used in Seminar III) but there are no pictures that I have control of. I could ask some of the young people if they could post some. Some people came all the way from St. Louis. Dave E. was here as well and it was really nice meeting him.
I hitched up our oldest horse , 29 year old Belgian Charlie for a field demonstration, Gandhi our 15 year old Haflinger for driving demonstration and lessons, while Doyle helped us plowing in some potatoes. One Percheron got his shoes re-set, the Percheron team will be used at the next seminar, do not want to play all my cards at once. The main focus today was on how to take care of horses.
Like in Seminar I all the participants got a folder with handouts so they can read at home again what they should have learned while here.

I should mention that Doyle Prawl has some fantastic mules, so well-behaved, that when some of the participants tried their hands on the lines, they could have had the illusion that they already know how to drive a team. I cured them of that illusion right away for the sake of safety.

Well, it sounds like a great program, Klaus, and a good time as well. Applause !!

Have you thought to put a photo/video log of your seminars together over time? I can only imagine that would be very valuable for an ever-larger eager and willing audience.

Klaus, Thomas and I may really retire someday. Don't be a bit surprised if we pull in your driveway with a horse trailer in tow. I might even talk Thomas into bringing some of his nice young horses along.
