draft pony

What is the output from one of these little critters?

Is it about = to a Shetland or more like a Haflinger?

I'd say these were 12 hands/ 48".

Do they eat like a road horse or are they easy keepers like mules/ true draft horses?

Any size up to 14 hands that works in harness is a draft pony.

Our 12 hh Shetland x's produce almost 2x the manure that the 35" - 40" Shetlands do. Maybe something to do with the Arab or Arab/Hackney breeding?

2013 & 2014 (so far) has not been an easy keeping year. More manure as less quality hay produces more output and LOTS more feed in, too!

No experience with "real" draft ponies... Just playing and trying to train and use our ponies more efficiently on the 9 acres we have. Have disks, spring tooth harrow (3'section w/ crumbler), chainlink home made drag, tire drags for training the pair(s), hafflinger sized forecart (2 big for smaller shetlands) w/ smaller pony tongue and a bush hog type mower that hasn't been used yet. Use a riding lawn mower w/ Clycone Rake to "vacuum"/mow the paddocks and pastures - need to have a part fabricated for the forecart to use it behind the ponies. Want a manure spreader...

Haven't graduated to more than 3 abreast yet... Hadn't even thought about more than 4 abreast w/ rope pulleys - work by myself and need to be able to set up my ponies that way. Hmmm - probably should split this into a post to OP and a separate post.

I have a pr of 450 lbs ponies there not 14 hands. we feed 1400 lbs big round bales with them pull a wagon with them fixing fence. They don't know there not big, before we bought them they had been In every chariot race in 15 county's If you got excited they ran hard. It took two years of pulling a cake cart with 600 lbs of cake 3 miles before they could walk.
