Embarassed and then proud

I had my team out on a sleigh ride on the trail that they use all the time. It was a beautiful day and I had a nice group of tourists on the sleigh an elderly man asked if he could drive back, so I let him take the lines. He was not doing very good so I was having to help him a fair amount. We were going along a pretty straight section of the trail and I think I relaxed a little and turned to answer someones question behind me ....the next thing I see is both horses turn and plunge off the packed trail into collar deep snow with a sleigh full of tourists . I grabbed the lines and told the girls to step up and about 30 yards later they were able to pull the sleigh back up on the packed trail. I have seen other teams go off the trail many times over the years but never any that could pull the sleigh and tourists back on to the trail. Those two really have a lot of heart.

Good story, with a happy ending! Just goes to show that driving a team is not as easy as it looks!

Nice recovery Dave, I'll bet that was the most exciting sleighride those folks have ever had!

You did A good job dealing with the situation. Some people think that A teamster is being A stick in the mud by not letting first timers drive the team on sleigh rides. They don't realize your just looking out for the People that are on the ride.

Dave there is nothing wrong with making a mistake as long as you correct it , sounds like you did a good job of correcting . Good job keeping everyone safe .
