Great pulling day

Haven't posted in a while. Mostly enjoying reading everyone else's, and wishing I took as good of pictures as Kari.
Been working my 4 yr. old QH with the old haflinger gelding. They're coming along pretty well, working almost every day, mostly plowing snow or hauling hay. The young one is trying very hard to learn the ropes. He listens well, tries to please, and is learning from the old man (the horse, not the driver) to conserve his energy, never knowing how long the harness will be on. They've both been standing and waiting like pros when we get hay loaded or hitching to logs, etc.
Well, today they got their biggest pulling test so far. Took the heavy wagon through heavy wet snow, then loaded up with heavy logs. I started to wonder if it was too much. They had quite a job to get it back out through the field. The young one pulled like it was competition, never quitting, even when we got a bit stuck in the shallow ditch getting back onto the road and three men had to push.
Kind of make a guy proud, I guess. Hope you're all gettin' regular time on the lines. Mike

I envy you , I have a paint horse in her late twenties and a mini donkey . I had a tree down that i couldnt get to in the woods so i cut it into rounds some weighing 50 pounds or so . I took the mini back there and would load the round onto a old childs sled and led him out the first and second time . the third go and from then on I would load it and tell him to take it out , and he did . After the first 8 or so trips he would try to head for the house but i cant really blame him there either .

Way to go Mike, just got in a little while ago from pulling logs. We've been hitching one of the young horses with an older horse, actually their moms. It amazes me to watch them teach the youngsters. By the way Larry, thanks a lot. My 11 yr. old has been asking for a donkey for awhile, and now I have no reason not to get him one. Have a great night!
