SDAD on RH on RFD-TV
Posted by Jason Rutledge at 2010-02-25 07:55:11
Heard through the grapevine that the tillage portion of the event that was filmed by Uncle Joe will air at:
1:00 am est, 12:00 midnight central time.
So all you second shift and insomniac horse/farm people may get to see it. I suspect it will be available in DVD from RH after it airs. If you have the DVR service you may record it and watch it later at a reasonable working person hour.
I haven't seen it, was not in front of the camera for a second at the event and look forward to seeing it. I will just have to stay up and watch it.
Hope some of yall enjoy it.

VA. Gal,
I had not heard of any specific finding of the EAB, but wouldn't be surprised by it being anywhere folks can drive a vehicle to, in about the same amount of time.
As you probably know it is against the law to sell firewood across county lines in Va. at the moment.
Don't ask me who enforces that since most local folks are cutting officers and those left have real crime to deal with. Sounds like an attempted remedy that is to little to late. Kind of silly to bring up prevention at this point.
Just don't move ash, burn it where you cut it.
Response by Jerry Hicks at 2010-02-26 06:27:24
We have been seeing borers in ash here and have been trying to burn all we can that looks bad, but they are saying it will also spread to the hickories soon as well.

How come RH has been reduced to one viewing opportunity per week? Some of that other "stuff" gets 2 or 3 runs per week regardless.
Also, who or how is the editing done for the RH program? It now seems almost schizophrenic - cutting to commercial in the middle of a sentence and then popping back in at a different point in the program. Uncle Joe - is this something with RFD or RH? Can we do something to help make it better? I look forward to watching RH each week and want to see it at its best.

We do not pay RFD-TV to show our program. Most programmers do and so get preferential treatment. We also don't have sponsors. We send in a 25 minute program and they chop it to fit. Our shows get aired twice a week on those weeks that do not have Friday afternoon livestock auctions -- about every other week. The network keeps promising to move the auctions to another channel ( either their HD channel or a second RFD-TV channel) and give us more air time but that hasn't yet happened. We got more air time when the channel had fewer commercial, paying programmers.

I guess we'll take what we can get with RFD.
I was glad we got to see some really good farm equipment on this show. Some really good stuff there. Wish I was rich. Also wish it were closer so I could go.

I have my DVR set to record no matter whet time it comes on. I just wanted to let you know I REALLY enjoy your program. The SDAD was a nice reflection of what was there too.

Hi Joe,
I too really enjoy RH and know you have many irons in the fire, with RFD program being just one of them, so please don't take my comments the wrong way.
I never thought about programs "paying" to be shown - that must be in addition to what RFD makes from commercials aired during a given broadcast. No wonder some of those shows - like cattleman to cattleman - are really just infomercials for some big ag company like Cargill .... - always pushing their supplement or seed.
So my question is what can we (viewers) do to implement some type of change in how RH is getting treated by RFD? I know of a lot of people that watch and enjoy RH that don't have and never will have drafts, oxen etc They talk about it when they see me with my team and would be very unhappy to see it off the air.
Do we need sponsors or something? If RFD is airing some of this other garbage over RH because you don't pay them to air it, let's think about moving it to another channel that can better appreciate what we do. I'll watch RH on whatever channel it's aired on - I'm certainly not married to RFD. Especially not after finding out they are a "pay to play" station. Big money - AGAIN.

Many of the programs on RFD-TV sell their own products, like DVDs, books, etc. Others sell their own advertising time during their program. Those two types of programs pay RFD-TV to have their programs shown. RFD-TV pays a few other programmers and program providers for their shows and then RFD-TV sells advertising time themselves during that program. Then, there are a few like us, who started with RFD-TV at the beginning, who don't pay to show their programs and who are not paid for their programming. There are fewer of us all the time. It just doesn't fit their business model now like it did 5-9 years ago.
RFD-TV is clearly pushing for a certain commercial market that is not exactly in line with Rural Heritage magazine. It is a very different network than it was even two years ago, much less 9 years ago when it started.
I have not yet decided what to do with our programming on the network. It costs us money and time to keep sending them programming, even rerun material, and takes our attention away from the magazine, book projects and other tasks that might serve our rural heritage community better in terms of real impact.
During this time of economic belt-tightening, it may make more sense to focus on our core products that best serve our readers and customers and consider abandoning efforts on the periphery that may ultimately jeopardize the overall financial health of the company.
I am a ways away from making up my mind. Other options would be to move to another, startup channel or to migrate to web-tv. I don't know right now but will be making a decision pretty soon.

Joe -
Thanks for your response. Please let me (and I'm sure many other supporters of RH) how we can be of service to keep RH on the air - somewhere.
I don't know much about editing video/TV stuff but perhaps we can help out with something like that.
