Two many horses?
Posted by Don McAvoy at 2010-02-22 11:28:15
Home alone, the wifes two little house dogs started barking. Chores were done; looked out the window and I have horses messing around by the bobsled. I beat it out the door and called the ones I couldn't see. Dang, the 2 saddle horses's blew right through the team and 4 colts! Nice horses, but they knew they were free. Had to start up the loader tractor to give them a bale of hay. Sucker bait for sure, they went right back through the pole barn. Seems somebody forgot to put a safety latch on the gate this morning! Must have been the "hired man"!? Maybe they didn't like the oat straw they got yesterday? Life is much simpler with just a team and one saddle horse. Wife claims I'am so accident prone that she wants to ride with me all the time anymore. I don't think she would ride with me the first 10 hooks on a young horse IF she knew it! Yes she can count; but sometimes her faith in me overcomes common sense!

That's funny Don! I blame a lot of stuff on my 'hired man' too.Nobody believes me. I took my mrs. out hooked to some colts a few times. She's now sure that I'm either stupid or crazy. Too late for her to back out now though.
I might have just got fired from my baby sitting job, the babe just gave herself a facial and a hair do with yogurt and just now peeled off her pullup and pee'd on the floor while I was reading your post! Better get 'er all cleaned up before mama comes home.

I'm glad to learn that my, nonexistant, hired man isn't the only one that does not get the gate closed good.

My hired man is a dirty dead beat that never gets it right. The boss is just as bad. Neither one is worth a pinch of puppy poop. Might fire them both and draw unemployment for both. KM

Ok on the subject of closing gates. That is one of my "pet peevees. Have considered beating some people half to death if I could have found out who left the gate open. We had 1920 ac pastures and run 1000 hd of yearlings in 3 pastures. Well it was a mess to sort out and between me and dad tempers were hot. But the neighbors got the picture about closing gates when you go threw. I put chains and padlocks on the gates and kept the only key. Only had 1 neighbor complain but he would not ask for a key lol. He just went around a different way. Never thought about blaming the "hired man", Hmmm might do that the next time the tractor runs out of fuel. lol

My "hired man" is like the human cannon ball; would fire him if I could find another man of his calibre!
Actualy friends and neighbors listen for updates on what he has done. Go figure!
