I would try to write or call one of the mower shops that advertise in RH magazine. I have seen them in the business card ad section.

Matt..I used to live at Stuart Ok., now I live in south central Ks. There is a Amish machinery repair place south of Tupalo maybe 7 or 8 miles and west of the hiway. It is some young Amish fellows that have it and they don't know to much about horse machinery as those Amish have went modern on their machinery but there are are lots of older Amish men around there that have a bunch of knowlege of it. I used to deal with them some and they could always find out what they needed to know. If they are still in business I would start there, if that mower has been pulled with a tractor it might need repairs and tuning that you are not capable of. If you intend to use it with horses it needs to be timed like a sewing machine and everything that cuts needs to be sharp.

B.W McNair and Sons has any part that you need. They have a web site

Any of the parts I believe are still available from John Deere, I have a #3 and I have gotten prices and such on parts from the local dealer. Some of them can also be found in the aftermarket sector. Good luck with the nice machine. They are a good working machine when properly tuned.

Matthew: Hey, south of you on highway 48 about 9.7 miles is the little town of Clarita. They have an "Amish Auction" there every year. They've been doing it for over twenty years, usually in September. I haven't looked for parts etc for a JD # 3 mower there but I suspect that if you were to ask around about it, no one would look at you like you were asking for a turnip pie!
Good Luck,
Brent
Hey, if you find a source for equipment repairs here in Okla. pass it along to us here on the Porch. Right now, I do it all myself and most of it looks like an undisiplined monkey had his way with it.

Hi Matthew:
I am in Durant, Oklahoma. Glad to see the Oklahoma response on the porch. I wondered if their was some more Okies on this thing. They have a draft horse and mule sale in Stillwater, Ok. next month. I think they have some of the parts you are looking for. Im pretty sure I saw a pitman arm and a bearing at last years sale. Will depend on what vendors shows up this year of course. This is a decent sale and is fairly close. The web page for B.W. Macnair given already is also a good place to look. I will be at the sale in Stillwater if anyone of the porch monkies show up their. We will have the chuckwagon and consessions their. will be cooking breakfast and lunch both days of the sale if we do what we have in the past. I help a freind with this endeavor. Come by and see me. I usually do the cobbler cooking. Please let me know more about the wagon ride from Coalgate to Norman. I cant go all 9 days but might be able to go for the weekend.
