Info on plow
Posted by T. Nichols at 2010-02-18 22:02:52
I bought a sulky plow that has a prairie breaker share and moldboard on it but I am stumped about its make. In two different places I have found Janesville on it in raised letters. The only other thing on it is the parts numbers which all start with N except a couple and they start with P. It was made with out a lever on the furrow wheel but the furrow wheel can move up and down, I assume it is self leveling. It is a really nice plow and in excellent shape. I have searched through all of my books and cannot find anything on it. If anybody knows of anything about a Janesville plow I would appreciate some info. Thanks

I have a Janesville cultivator. I googled "Janesville Machine Company" which got me some information on the company from some Janesville, WI history sites. I didn't get much more beyond info on the company, but I didn't keep digging.

There's a story about the Janesville Machine Company in the Holiday 2008 issue of Rural Heritage magazine that includes a color illustration of a Janesville sulky plow.

J.Mathis..Thanks for the info of where to go, I punched in several things and some did come up for Janesville Wi. but had info on their snowplows, thats when I gave and decided I needed some help. I sure am not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination. Just can't figure it out, if these things are so amrt and know so much how come it doesn't know what it is I want it to tell me. Sam, I really appreciate the info, just hope I can find that issue of Rural Heritage. I really need the color illustration as I want to paint it. This plow had to have been shoved back in a barn for many years as rust has not ate it up, and it has not been used but very little, absoultly no wear anyplace, not even on the hitch where the clevis pins in. I bought it to use and not to look at as it has the prairie breaker bottom on it and that is what this sod around here requires. Thanks again.
