I would like to know the difference between a regular gear and a high gear mower, thanks for the help

The scientific way to say it is; if your ground wheel turned 750 RPM. The flywheel would turn 3562 RPM in the Regular gear and 3818 RPM in the High gear. While this is over simplified, you get the idea. I am not a physics or engineering major, so I could be wrong, but it sounds good.
The reg gear and High gear mower have two gears and a tool box lid different.
Regular gear has 12 tooth and 57 tooth
High gear has 11 tooth and 56 tooth.

the number of teeth on the gears. Some one will know the exact count. It should be stamped on the tool box High gear too.

I am certainly no expert and am a novice--but I believe that the High Gear models are geared so that the blades on the cutter bar reciprocate faster at a slower ground speed. Slower walking horses or mules would use a high gear and larger breeds or animals that walk a little faster would use a Regular gear machine.

Norm. What is your opinion of the trailer gear being pulled by horses? How about the David Bradley?

This website sells reprints of the original parts list and owners manual for both the no. 7 and no. 9 mowers.

Sorry, I forgot this was posted. Around here (amish country) a trailer gear mower will drive price on mower up another $300 to $500. I guess the theory is:
While 5th gear is nice in a truck you may have to downshift to get more torque involved to go up the mountain. the same is true for high gear and trailer gear. while mowing along at high speed as long as everything is going smooth great but hit some tough stuff and high gear may bog down while trailer gear plugs through. Make sense??? thats the theory, can't prove it again but sounds good.
Unfortunately David Bradley across the nation is not well known and not much is said in my direction about them.
The best kept secret is actually the latest New Idea, but very hard to find and parts are a problem. I have only worked on one and it seemed like it might run rings round IH and JD. I'd be curious to hear from someone who has experience with them.
