Snow, Snow, Snow
Posted by Todd W at 2010-02-03 06:57:46
What in the World is going on? Everytime I look at the forecast they're calling for more snow or freezin rain. How the heck is a man supposed to make a living with all this sorry weather all the time?
We got eight inches last Fri. and Sat., had freezin rain yesterday and more on the way for Fri. and Sat. again!
Somebody oughtta shoot that groundhog I'm ready for spring!
Thought the world was supposed to be geting warmer! Somebody turn up the heat!
Think I'll go lite my forge and release a little more carbon!

Yeah, and to point out your in NC not NYC. I'm ready for a little global warming here to down in GA!
Response by debbie at 2010-02-03 14:12:20
well...I'm happy to say that yesterday afternoon my backyard was hosting a Robin reunion--I don't think I've ever seen them return this early. I'm in Western
Pa. and my personal belief is that birds are smarter than any old groundhog!
Response by KM at 2010-02-03 16:03:18
I have not seen bare ground since before Thanksgiving. I am thinking it will be about late March early April that I see it again. Need any more cheese with your whine. LOL

Hit 18F today. Forecast is for over 20F this weekend. Heat wave for here.
Response by Alan S at 2010-02-03 17:33:28
Todd if you find some of that global warmin send it to the western part of the state, bout tired of winter up here too.If its not snowin or rainin, there is so much mud that you cant do anything. If the forecast holds true this will be our third big storm in less than 2 months, this has been the worst winter we have had in long time.
Response by Cheri at 2010-02-03 21:07:05
Same here in Iowa. I think we've either tied or just exceeded the record for the most days with a snow cover. And more forecast for this weekend. Plus we've had several days below zero. One the up side, I saw geese flying north today and the days are getting longer.
Response by M. Burley at 2010-02-03 21:17:23
I'll take frozen ground for moving round bales and skidding logs over draggin' through mud any day. The groundhog says six more weeks of winter here. We'll start tapping trees in a week or two for maple season.

I have always said the weather is the most talked about subject and nobody can do anything about. Look what man is in charge of and what a mess it is sure glad we can't mess up the weather.
Response by Dale Wagner at 2010-02-04 10:42:12
INteresting weather isn't it.
Last year Spokane had 80inches of snow at this time and this year about 13. It is an EL NINO year for sure.
Response by kman at 2010-02-04 16:17:56
Send your winter to Idaho. We need some snowpack or it's going to be a dry summer. Sorry Kari, I know in Teton Valley it gets pretty deep, but it's short for the rest of us.
Response by KM at 2010-02-04 17:58:50
We are short here too. The mountain has been getting pretty good snow but on the valley floor we are low. Have been getting a few inches every morning lately.

I am taking the scouts out to sleep in snow caves this weekend. Hoping for snow but no wind and cold. KM
Response by Todd W at 2010-02-05 06:14:46
KM, I looked out the window this mornin and saw your airmail being delivered in my backyard. About an inch so far. You folks should really do something about them delivering your unwanted frozen mess to the wrong address.

Three years ago we were in a terrible drought, now we're floating in our backyards....hows that for change we can believe in?

There was one day a few weeks back, my raingauge said we got 4 inches of rain in about a 36 hour period.

Here in New England we can't complain this winter. We've had a few storms, but nothing major in over a month. We had the longest January thaw that I can remember, almost a full week above freezing, with a lot of rain that week. Temperatures have been in the 20s and 30's most days, with only a few days lower, and I don't think we've made it much below zero many nights. Compared to last winter, when we didn't go a week without measurable snow, I'm not complaining. I've seen a lot of robins too, but that's more a trend the last few years, that they aren't migrating as much, rather than a prediction of any early spring, I'm afraid.
Response by Todd W at 2010-02-05 18:44:47
Raingauge says 2 3/4" has fallen since yesterday.
Response by jwaller at 2010-02-09 09:34:14
Had a nasty storm this weekend. Blew from the east so I have up to 4' in spots in the yard. Was going to take hogs and one beef into the locker plant today. Will have to postpone until next week's days off to get more snow moved out.

Todd-got Jerry Clower's Greatest Hits yesterday. He is funny. I had forgotten about him from HeeHaw.

You're right. He should have gone into politics!!!!

Heard about Sarah Palin's speech at some Republican rally. Commentators were making fun of the speech. So I did see some of the actual speech later.

Didn't see anything she said as funny or strange!! Mostly commentators were taking bits out of context to make her look silly.

Still wonder what there is about this chick that scares the mass media so much.
Response by jwaller at 2010-02-09 20:57:50
p.s.-my neighbor has Palin's book. I'm going to borrow it this weekend (I'm off work) and read it.

I think I would still like her even if she was ugly as a bucket of puckered butts.
Response by hammerhead at 2010-02-09 21:16:42
The paper says the snowpack is 65% of normal in the mountains,Gallatin Co. Mt, but at my house it's the first time the ground has stayed white all winter for over a decade. Unfortunately the snow in my pasture now won't irrigate it in the summer.

Last winter Spokane had a record snowfall - 90 some inches. Looks like this year will set a record for the least - 12 inches. But the creek has came down for the first time in four years and is filling up my swamp. Can just double the amount of pasture cattle I can take on.

Waller, if you don't understand why Palin scares the media and the political establishment, you need to go to a TEA Party event.
Response by jwaller at 2010-02-12 02:35:22
My oldest son goes to these Tea Party things. Second son just reads the NRA literature and votes from that.

Just not sure I want to rub elbows with some of the folk I know who go to Tea Party stuff and belong to the NRA.

I'll read her book this winter. Neighbor's two son's moved to Alaska. Sent him the book.

Have to process all this information. Will get back to you.
