horse farms in North Carolina
Posted by hayburner at 2010-01-30 15:35:40
Hi fellow monkeys - I'm beginning to look for a horse farm in north central NC between I77 and I95. Does anyone know good realtors that you could recommend? Anything to stay away from? Thanks; looking forward to hearing from you.

Man-o-man thats a big area to be lookin in. I suggest you add property taxes to your criteria as well as reputable hospitals within easy distance and distance from major highways.

Stay away from Forsythe, Guilford, Alamance, and Orange counties, unless you like giving the government all your money. Guilford, Forsythe and Orange have excellant hospitals and major highway intersects, but the taxes are unbelievably high. Anywhere outside those counties is good. Amazingly enough, to the North of each of those is prime horse country. Here's an observation in a question, why does the money always seem to gravitate north??? Strange!

Hope this helps...

P.S. I'd look for flatland....I hate these stinkin hills. I'm just west of Greensboro.

northern granvill co. still has some reasonable priced land but it is going up rather fast..just over the line in va there is decent looking land for sale frequently and it is a little cheaper then n.c. right now..united country is a repudable company over all..a fellow...lee humphries lives in granville county and specializes in larger tracts..his number is 919 247 2341..the larger the tract around here the cheaper per acre it is..lee knows the area real well and i trust him...granvill county tax is reasonabl compared to counties to our south..person county borders our western line..it has a good deal of open country as does warren county to our east..vance county lies between us..warren county is classed as apoor ounty and has a small population...

Boy you had better be careful looking for a farm in NC! I know a fellow, bought a farm there to do some horse farming. For 2 1/2 solid years now all he has had time to do is bushog weeds or cut grass! Please dont let yourself fall into the same trap! Come on down to SC where we have time for plenty of horse farming, and the grass cutting we do is called making hay.

I knew I could count on you guys for good information. I was looking in Caswell Co around Yanceyville - anybody know anything that part of the country? And I don't have anything against SC- have a sister who's lived there 40 yrs but I have kids and grandkids in MD and NJ and want to be able to visit back and forth at least some. Granville Co also looks promising. I appreciate anything y'all can tell me. Thanks again

Granville isn't too bad. Mighty hilly though. Better look long and hard to find a flatspot. I hear the grow their horse up there with two long and two shorts, so the can get around the hills better. Been told the wagons have big wheels on one side and little ones on the other too, so the cargo don't fall out.

I believe I'd look over toward the east a little further. Less snow and flatter country.

When I get my Stimulus Check I'm leaving for SC. I hear good things about that place. I'll be sure to bring my AC too!

I live in Tryon NC, WHERE HORSES RULE !
Just about 1 hr south of Ashville NC
and 1 hr north of Greenville, SC
It is beautiful country here, yes a little
hilly but not terrible and taxes are still
relatively low. Miles of protected horse trails, facilities for all kinds of riding, dressage, eventing, hunter jumpers, endurance and carriages, 2 fox hunts , you name it , it's all here.
Call for more info.828 894 3556. I am selling my 53 acre horse farm because of health issues.
Linda
