get your self a 6 foot stick or even a fishing pole will work .when the lazy horse hangs back you just need to touch her back leg and it will move right up. they dont like to think something is going to touch them if they slack off.after a few times you should see an awesome difference.

You could try switching the inside traces for a few times it worked very well for my geldings.

Switching the inside traces works for my mules. Or hook a rope from the outsid hame back through outside ring on the britchen on both horses to the other ring on hame if it is short enough will slide the one thats back up they dont like that. also a stick will work.

I wonder how many will tell you to use a stay chain back to your wagon.

An old skipole is a great persuader. I would also try shortening the slower horses heel chains a couple of links, or lengthening the other horse a couple. Slower horse just might not want to pack as much bit and be backing off the bit. Look at the double tree when you shorten the tugs and see if it makes a difference. Swapping the inside tugs can help short term but if you leave them swapped for long you have eliminated the benefit of a single tree and could sore a shoulder.

Put a stay chain on the doubletree back to the load so the pulling horse has to carry all the load if he gets ahead too far. Your lagging horse is either lazy or don't want to pack as much line pressure. So shorten his heel chains some and let the pulling horse's out a ways. If he still lags, get a stick so you can jab him. If that don't work, eat him as he ain't worth fooling with.

On the ski pole, the best is the longest.
