Replacment for old plow shares
Posted by Will at 2010-01-29 11:18:07
I have acquired a few older walking plows that I use around the place. The shares on these plows are quite worn and some are missing. Does anyone still make shares for these old walking plows? Oliver 10, 13, 19 and an AC2 which I believe is an Allis Chalmers 7" plow. (could be mistaken)

Contact Brabant Owner in SC, he has all you've mentioned, but to answer your question, no.
Tommy will be happy to help you out

Nobody is making new points for these plows as far as I know. Erb in Ohio was making some steel ones but that was a while back, he sold out. I have the parts for all the right hand plows you listed, all still brand new. The AC2 is an Oliver 9" one horse plow. I also have complete plows in all those sizes in case you need some spares! I am going to get the for sale list on the swap meet soon. Give me a call if you would like, or email. Thanks Todd W.

Maybe some of you should learn some blacksmithing skills and hammer out your own.

I really do appreciate it! Just started a couple of years ago playing with the Draft horses, had riding stock all my life but those giants have some sort of magnetic personality that sucked me in at first sight! lol

Have to agree with Brabant, allis did not make any "designed" horse drawn equipment. It was all tractor drawn and I don't recall ever seeing something smaller than 14" in their plows

Dale are you a blacksmith? What grade of steel would you use for points? I'm tinkering with a coalforge and have been trying to figure out what grade of Stainless Steel to use or at minimum what to quench the steel in to get it hard enough not to wear out so quickly.
Thanks ahead of time...

I bought my plow from Brabant owner since he is closer to me here in the south. I actually traveled to his place and wow, he sure has some kind of selection. Anyone that has priced "new" equipment out there needs to contact him if you are looking for a horse drawn plow. For the prices he asks for them and the quality, it will be hard to beat. I won't quote all of his prices. I think he has just put an ad up on the swap shop. But I can attest to the quality. Even though they are made years ago and are of the good old quality, they look brand new when you get them. He uses an inventory of unused parts from way back then, puts new handles on the beam, and usus all new bolts. REALLY nice and I am sure you will be pleased. I already have him lined up to put me a two horse plow, a planter, and a cultivator together.
