John Deere mower cutter bar
Posted by Doug Aaron at 2009-06-20 22:44:59
I am replacing the guards, ledger plates, bolts, nuts, wear plates, cutter bar, sections, etc. in a #4 mower. When I bought the mower it looked like the cutter bar was complete, but in taking it apart, I have found some parts missing and non standard parts too. The diagram I have is very small. Could someone post a decent diagram?

Go to BW Macknair's web site. He has a good diagram of a #9 and I don't think the #4 is too much different. Or buy Miller's mower book?

Thanks. I've got all three of Miller's books, including the Mower book, but the diagram of the No. 4 lacks a cutter bar diagram. I've got McNair's web site bookmarked. I'll try going there.

I noticed that the Mower book lacked the diagram of the mower bar. How dissimilar to the hang on mowers is the bar set up?

Great luck. I stumbled upon a parts manual for the John Deere No. 4 Mower with nice, big diagrams. I'll try to post the diagram of the cutter bar tomorrow. Also my John Deere parts person went through the diagram for me and put the new part numbers on a couple of parts that had changed. It was very helpful for me.

if you ever need information that like in the future go to jdparts.com and sign up for an account it will give you access to every john deere manual in the computer system. although not a whole lot of no.4 parts are still avaliable the cutter bar is almost the same as the no.5 and it seems every hedge row im in latly has a no.5 in it.
