getting a good start

hi im james and have always ever since i can remember wanted to have me a buggy so i have decided they aint gonna hand me one so ill build me one and can. got all the stuff to do it. so i got these horses out here some may hay seen a plow line some may not but they fixen too. ive got it in my head that the best way to start one out on there first pull is a ground slide once they get to turning good. am i right or wrong on this??? and every bit of advice would be real helpful please on my journey. thank you so much. james reeder, jena, louisiana

That's sorta the way I do it. Work them one at a time. After you get braver and you think you have a feel for each horse then put two together. It is about thinking you can guess when they are going to blow up before they do and stop it.

If you don't have that handy item, you can use tires, an appropriate sized log or something you already have, until you can build the slide. You want something heavy enough so the horse can feel the pull but not something so heavy that it gets discouraged (you can turn the horse into a balky animal by asking it to do too much too soon).

Dale, it's when you know what that horse will do is when you understand that you don't know everything. Then you become a true horseman. No desrespect intended. I fully agree with your statement. Every horse teaches us something, good or bad depends on expierance.
