How many Suffolk horses do you have? Just curious, as that is my desire to have a couple.

Gene, where are you from?

I have two crossbred geldings and a registered mare. I really like the Suffolk. Good temperment, 'compact' as in chunks, I can get harness on them without a ladder and I like the color, too.
Rodney-another fan of Suffolks?

more than a fan, been at it for over 30 some years now. Started after my Dad got a reg suffolk mare at Waverly Iowa sale. with in a few years I got a stallion and before you know it two mare and off and running.

Gene,
I also have been raising and working Suffolk horses for over thirty years. They are simply the easiest horses to work with. You can have a Ford or a Chevy, but once you have a Rolls Royce everything else is just a ride....Suffolk - the Rolls Royce of draft horses....
They are not easy to find. They are spread out all over the country, but they are available especially if you are willing to travel a bit. Go to the www.suffolkpunch.com site and look at the horses for sale list or to www.draftsforsale.com and look at the Suffolk list.
Good luck, the horses need good owners that will use them for what they have been bred for. Owning a registered mare is like having a franchise. It is hard to find stallions sometimes, but one can just raise their own there too.

Rodney-I was referring to Gene as another fan of Suffolks.
In the day of everyone farming with horses, I believe the modern Suffolk would have been considered HUGE horses. Grandpa's horses were large by the standard of his day. If I recall correctly, his last team here was 15-16H. And stout-'chunks'.
Looking at old photos, either the men in the photos with their horses were all very tall or they were mostly using 900-1,000# horses.
