How to Put
an Image on the Front Porch
by Dave (Felt) Feltenberger
Once you have posted the picture
to your own web site, the easiest way to get it posted to the porch
is to do the following:
- In your web browser, navigate to the page where the picture is
located.
- Place your mouse pointer over the picture and click the left mouse
button.
- A little dialog box will come up. The box will have a long list
of selections. The last one on the list will be PROPERTIES. Click
that.
- Another box will pop up. In it will be the address of your document.
No spelling errors. The address will begin with http:// and will end
with the name you gave the picture file. You will know which one it
is right off, because it says "Address" right in front of
it. Highlight the address.
- If you do not know how to highlight text, it is easy. Put your
mouse pointer at the beginning (or end) of the text you want to highlight,
hold down the left mouse button, and slide the pointer to the other
end of the text you want to highlight. A small black box will
surround the text you have highlighted as you slide your pointer.
When you have highlighted the whole address of your picture, release
the left mouse button. The text will remain highlighted.
- To get the address into a buffer, hold down the CTRL button (lower
left corner of your keyboard) and simultaneously press the C key on
your keyboard. (Computer geeks call this "Ctrl/C". When
a normal human being says it, it sounds like "Control See.")
Now you have the address in a paste buffer, even though you
cannot see that anything has happened. It's a little like making your
house payment—you just have to believe it happens after you
do your part. Unlike your house payment, though, you will soon be
able to see the results.
- Now, when you go to the Rural Herritage Front Porch and want to
post your picture, simply navigate to the thread to which you would
like to post, type whatever introduction you would like to do
in the Response box, and then paste in your address from the paste
buffer. Paste by doing a "Control Pee" ("Ctrl/P"
in geek speak). This time you see the contents of your paste buffer
spill out into the Response box, the house payment equivalent of getting
your next month's mortgage statement. (If you think you have followed
these instructions and the address does not appear as described, you
have probably failed to get the address into your paste buffer. An
easy way isto use the Copy and Paste functions provided in your browser's
Edit menu. Simply highlight the text as described above. Then click
the edit menu at the top of your browser screen, and then click Copy.
This will accomplish the same thing you did with control/C. When you
get to the Rural Heritage page and want to paste your text into your
post, select Edit/Paste.)
- The address of your picture will appear in your post exactly as
you have pasted it there until the Rural Heritage A-Team reviews your
post and the webmaster converts the address of your picture (otherwise
known as the picture's URL) into a hyper-link. Like magic, your picture
will appear in your post.
