Set the point of the share down so the suction, or clearance, is 1/16" to 1/8" under the landside at point "A."

The clearance, or underpoint suction, in the throat of the share should be 1/16" to 1/8" at point "B."

All walking plowshares should have a wing bearing (point "D"). The correct wing bearing is as follows:
16" plow - 1 1/2"
14" plow - 1 1/4"
12" plow - 3/4"

A straight edge placed at the rear of the landside (point "C") and extending to the wing of the share should touch the back of the edge (point "D").

When sharpening the share, take care not to turn the point to one side or the other. The point fitted to the plow should have about 1/4" clearance, or landside suction, at "E."
